Celebrating Art and Heritage at First White Cloth Hall

19 March 2024

n the spring of 2024, the historic walls of First White Cloth Hall were alive with vibrant colour as we proudly collaborated with The Art Court to host the ‘Beyond Colours Of Life’ exhibition. The event saw the magnificent hall on Kirkgate, Leeds’s oldest street, become a soulful setting for a series of works by exceptionally talented artists.

Our vision for First White Cloth Hall has always been to see it thrive not just as a monument to the past, but as a living part of the city’s future. This exhibition was a perfect expression of that ethos. It featured artists with a highly sophisticated treatment of colour, creating a beautiful and intense visual contrast with the building’s historic fabric. This dialogue between old and new, between vibrant contemporary art and the stories held within the stone, created a truly meaningful experience for all who visited.

Once the epicentre of the city’s world-renowned cloth trade, the hall once again became a hub for celebrating Leeds’s creative aptitude. We believe that allowing new life and new stories to unfold within these cherished spaces is the best way to honour their heritage.

We were thrilled to partner with The Art Court to create a moment that stood as a celebration of both our shared heritage and the exciting direction of our city’s creative community.
