A Joyful New Welcome to Leeds Corn Exchange
The entrance to one of Leeds’ most cherished landmarks now glows with creative energy. We are delighted to have worked with regional artist April Key to commission ‘Sky, Sun, Clouds’, a captivating neon installation that transforms the main entrance into a celebration of light and imagination.
This commission is born from our belief that art can spark new conversations with historic places. April Key’s practice beautifully explores the relationship between architecture, memory, and light. Inspired by the fluidity of the natural world, this piece resonates deeply with the soul of the Corn Exchange, a building created by the legendary architect Cuthbert Brodrick for the trade of seasonal, natural products. The artwork’s flowing forms gracefully twist and curve, their colours blending like tendrils of wind, reflecting the ever-changing character of the Yorkshire landscape.
‘Sky, Sun, Clouds’ does more than just illuminate a walkway; it invites you to pause and see this architectural marvel with fresh eyes. We hope the installation encourages visitors to engage more deeply with their surroundings, perhaps recognising how the artwork’s subtle forms echo the magnificent features within.
It’s a perfect example of how thoughtful, creative interventions can bring new personality and atmosphere to our city’s icons. We are proud to support Yorkshire’s incredible talent and to continue nurturing the Corn Exchange as a place where the identity and vibrancy of Leeds culture truly shines.
